Common answers include Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Jacinda Ardern, Bill Gates, Martin Luther King Jr., Wangari Maathai, and the Dalai Lama. Others cite figures like Che Guevara, Fidel Castro, Patrice Lumumba, or Malcolm X — all of whom left an indelible mark on history.
The Leadership Paradox: Influence Alone Is Not Enough
What did these leaders share in common? They evoked emotion — inspiring, empowering, intimidating, or uniting people.
This raises a difficult question:
If figures like Adolf Hitler or Joseph Stalin could inspire masses, does that make them good leaders?

Early in my career, I worked for a manager who transformed my view of leadership. During a crisis, she simply said:
